Durham Bulls News Release

(Columbus, OH) Brandon Guyer's two-run homer in the first gave Durham a short-lived lead in a 5-3 loss at Columbus on Tuesday morning.

Columbus (32-14), the best team in the International League, swept the four-game series, winning all four games by one, two or three runs. Durham (24-21) now has dropped five straight heading into an off day in Ohio. Dating back to last year, Columbus has won eight straight home games against the Bulls.

Guyer's two-run homer to left off Scott Barnes (3-1) gave Durham a 2-0 lead, the only Bulls lead of the four-game series.

Columbus answered in the bottom half of the frame against lefty Alex Torres (2-4), scoring on back-to-back two-out doubles by Lonnie Chisenhall and Jerad Head.

In the second, the Clippers took advantage of a leadoff walk to Luis Valbuena to take the lead for good. Wes Hodges then doubled to put runners at second and third. A Luke Carlin groundout tied the game. After Paul Phillips bounced back to the mound, Jason Kipnis homered off the video board in right-center for a 4-2 lead. In the last five games, Durham has allowed 22 two-out runs (of 35 total).

A leadoff walk against Torres and a botched pickoff led to a fifth and final run in the fifth. Durham relievers Rob Delaney and RJ Swindle held Columbus in check over the final three innings.

Desmond Jennings' seventh homer was Durham's run over the final eight innings. Ray Olmedo (4-for-5) had half of Durham's five hits.

The Bulls have a much-needed off day in Ohio before a morning game on Thursday against Toledo. Brian Baker faces off against Adam Wilk in a 10:30 start. Air time is at 10:15 on 620 the Buzz and www.durhambulls.com.
