Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, return to Hadlock Field for a three-game Mother's Day weekend series against the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins) May 6th-8th. The homestand will feature the second post-game fireworks show of the year on Friday night, the largest 5K in the State of Maine on Sunday, plenty of sunshine after a rainy April, and much more.
The homestand kicks-off Friday night at 6:00 PM with a fantastic post-game fireworks show, made possible by U.S. Cellular. Prior to the game WCSH 6 will kick-off their annual Feed ME Food Drive. All fans are asked to bring non-perishable food items to the game to be donated to the Good Shepherd Food Bank. Can't make it to the game on Friday, log on to www.wcsh6.com to see where you can make your food donations on Saturday.
The Sea Dogs are back in action on Saturday, May 7th at 1:00 PM. Prior to the game the Sea Dogs will honor 800 "Most Improved Students" from across the state in a pre-game ceremony. Each student was selected by their teacher for their improvements and sustained excellence throughout the 2010-2011 school year, earning a complimentary ticket for Saturday's game, courtesy of the Nextgen college Investing Plan.
Mother's Day, May 8th starts with the Sea Dogs annual Mother's Day 5K Road Race at 9:15 AM. A capped field of 3,000 runners is expected, which makes the race the largest 5K in Maine and the second largest road race, behind the Beach to Beacon, in the state. All proceeds from the race benefit Maine Breast Cancer Research.
At 1:00 PM on Sunday, the Sea Dogs will take the field wearing pink uniforms for Breast Cancer Awareness. Prior to the game the Sea Dogs will host the third Hood Kids Club event of the year; a birthday party for Slugger the Sea Dog, who will turn 18 this weekend.
Tickets are available for all remaining 2011 Sea Dogs' home games. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or online at www.seadogs.com. The Sea Dogs are Maine's most affordable professional sports entertainment.
