Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine- The Binghamton Mets (6-8) improved to 3-0 against the Portland Sea Dogs (5-9) this season defeating Portland 6-3 Monday night at Hadlock Field.
Portland starter Stephen Fife got off to a rocky start in the first inning surrendering two hits, two walks, and hit a batter as Binghamton was able to push a run across the plate on a Brahiam Maldonado sacrifice fly to left to take a 1-0 lead.
Fife would settle down and retire ten straight Binghamton hitters until the fifth inning. Fife gave up three straight singles to load the bases when Eric Campbell was hit by a pitch forcing home Allan Dykstra and Fife from the game. Fife (2-1) lasted 4.1 allowing four runs on five hits suffering the loss. Tommy Hottovy would relieve Fife and was quickly greeted by a Michael Fisher double scoring Jordany Valdespin and Jesus Feliciano as Binghamton took a 4-1 lead.
The Portland offense scratched across single runs in the fourth and the fifth innings. In the fourth, Ryan Dent collected a bloop single to left scoring Oscar Tejeda. In the fifth inning, Jorge Padron delivered his second hit of the game, a RBI single scoring Tim Federowicz. Both runs were charged to Binghamton starter Brandon Moore (1-0) who earned the win tossing five solid innings yielding two runs on seven hits.
Binghamton extended the lead in the eighth inning to 6-2. Maldonado led-off the inning with a home run over the Maine Monster off Seth Garrison. Valdespin added a RBI single to left to complete the scoring. The runs ended a 9.1 inning scoreless streak over six games for Garrison who had not been scored upon this year.
Portland threatened in the ninth but could only add one additional run; Che-Hsuan Lin scored on a Ryan Lavarnway sacrifice fly to left.
The Sea Dogs held Eastern League Player of the Week Josh Satin hitless in Monday's contest.
