Brahmas Take Game One in 5-4 Final

March 31, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Odessa Jackalopes News Release

N. RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes had two power play opportunities in the final six minutes of the game, but the Texas Brahmas penalty kill held off a furious rush to take game one of their opening round series in the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Playoffs. Texas leads the best-of-five series, 1-0.

Jason Deitch finished with two goals and two assists for the Brahmas. Sebastien Thinel led the Jackalopes with a goal and a helper in the contest.

With the exception of Detich's first goal in the contest, all of the game's scoring took place in the second and third periods.

Mark Ehl set up the frantic ending to the game after converting a breakaway chance for Odessa 7:02 into the third to make it a 5-4 game. The Brahmas had jumped out to a pair of two-goal leads in the third period thanks to goals by Darryl McArthur and Dylan Stanley, only to see Ehl and Thinel keep the game close for Odessa.

Deitch started the game's scoring with a power play goal in the first period with 4:29 to play and a 1-0 lead that Texas would carry into period two.

Matt Gens tied the game for Odessa on the man-advantage midway through the middle period. Ryan Bennet struck again for Texas, before Odessa's Mike Ramsay tied the game at 2-2. At that point in the game all of the scoring came on power play chances, but Deitch's second goal of the night came at even strength with 1:38 to play in the frame to end that run.

Mike Mole made 33 saves in net for Odessa, while Wayne Savage stopped 22 for Texas.

Todd Robinson had an assist in the game for the Jacks to extend his point streak to 18 games stretching back into the regular season.

This is the third straight season the Jackalopes and Brahmas have met in the post season. Each of the last two years the team that won game one, went on to lose the series.

Game two will take place on Saturday at the NYTEX Sports Centre at 7:30 PM CST. The action can be heard on Classic Rock 102.1 FM.

The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is currently in the middle of its 14th season.
