Washington, D.C. (March 24, 2011) - D.C. United's Youth Academy compiled a 4-2-2 record against the New York Cosmos and Met Oval over the past weekend in U.S. Soccer Development Academy Play.
The U-18 squad finished the weekend undefeated, led by two goals from Marcus Salandy-Defour. The team kicked off with a 1-1 draw against the New York Cosmos U-18's on Saturday, March 19. After going down a man to a red card, United battled back and earned the draw after a goal from Salandy-Defour. Salandy-Defour then found the net again on Sunday, March 20 in a 2-0 win against Met Oval, as Mikias Eticha tallied the other goal.
After a disappointing 3-0 loss to the Cosmos on Saturday, United's U-16 team regained its winning form behind a goal and an assist from Lars Eckenrode in a 4-0 victory over Met Oval. In addition to Eckenrode's performance, the other goals were netted by Yaw Amankwa, Ohjay Porteria, and Suli Dainkeh, with assists coming from Dami Aditola, Collin Martin, and Martin Lopez.
The Black-and-Red U-15 team began the weekend with a scoreless draw versus the Cosmos on March 19, but won convincingly on Sunday, March 20 against Met Oval in a 4-0 route. Michael Seaton scored twice in the victory while Chike Nwaeazeapu and Sam Daniels also added goals.
United's youngest Academy side came away victorious as well, as the U-14's narrowly defeated Met Oval 3-2 on goals from Brandon Williamson, Jimmy Alvarado, and Patrick Jean-Gilles. The squad fell on Saturday, however, losing 3-1 to the Cosmos.
