Adirondack Phantoms News Release
Andrew Rowe (6th) and Luke Pither (8th) scored less than 2 minutes apart late in the third period to lead Adirondack to a dramatic 4-3 come from behind victory at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Wednesday night. It was Adirondack's first win against Binghamton this season.
The Phantoms have had their share of late comebacks in many of theirexciting January wins. And Wednesday night featured another as Andrew Rowe, who has been a healthy scratch as of late, tied the score at 3-3 with 4:44 remaining in the third. Rowe picked up a loose puck behind the net and snuck one past Senators goaltender Mike Brodeur.
Following the game-tying goal, a flurry occurred in front of Phantoms netminder Johan Backlund but he stood tall to keep the game tied.
Luke Pither would then score the game-winner shortly thereafter as he picked up a rebound in the slot and ripped one top shelf giving Adirondack the thrilling 4-3 lead.
Kevin Marshall finished the game with three assists and was announced as the #2 Star of the Game while Danny Syvret finished with 2 assists.
Less than six minutes later, Binghamton tied the score at 1-1 on a Patrick Wiercioch shot from the point that beat a screened Johan Backlund.
Bordson would strike again at the 12:26 mark of the first as he scored his second of the night and third as an Adirondack Phantom on a rebound in front of the Binghamton net. Bordson's fourth goal of the season gave Adirondack the 2-1 lead.
Adirondack outshot Binghamton in the opening period 15-8.
Mike Brodeur would come on in relief of Robin Lehner to start the second period who made 13 saves in the opening period for the Senators.
Binghamton would storm back to tie the game at 2:02 of the second period. David Dziurzynski from the high slot beat Phantoms goaltender Johan Backlund with a shot just under the crossbar to tie the score at 2-2.
Following the second period, the Phantoms were outshooting the Senators 26-13 and all but dominating the game.
Corey Locke, the AHL leading scoring, gave Binghamton a 3-2 lead though at 5:18 of the third period. It was his sixteenth goal of the season with assist to Derek Smith and Colin Greening. That is when the Phantoms struck twice late in the third.
Adirondack and Binghamton finished 0-for-3 on the power play. Johan Backlund made 21 saves to earn his fifth victory of the season while Mike Brodeur stopped 19 in the defeat.
The Phantoms host the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night for their final home game before the All-Star Break. The new mascot will be unveiled before the game.
The Phantoms are 10-5-3 since December 17. They are 8-5-3 under HeadCoach Joe Paterson. The win combined with a Syracuse overtime losspulled the Phantoms to within 5 points of the Crunch in the standings.
