Isotopes Announce 2011 Field Staff

December 10, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes will be led in 2011 by Lorenzo Bundy, who heads-up a new field staff that includes hitting coach John Valentin and pitching coach Glenn Dishman, the ‘Topes announced today. Bundy becomes the fourth manager in team history and succeeds Tim Wallach, who joined the staff of the Los Angeles Dodgers as third base coach last month.

Bundy, 51, is a veteran Minor League manager, amassing a career record of 528-568 in nine seasons as skipper in the Montreal (1990-94), Florida (1997), and Los Angeles organizations. Last year, Bundy guided the Rookie-Level Arizona League Dodgers to a 30-25 record in his first season back with the Dodgers after serving as first base coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009. In 2007-08, Bundy managed Triple-A Las Vegas in the Dodgers chain to a record of 141-146 and was initially supposed to be at the helm of the ‘Topes in 2009 before getting the position with the D-backs. Bundy also saw Major League coaching time with Arizona in 2004 as bench coach, with the Marlins as outfield/base-running coach in 1998, and as bullpen coach for the Colorado Rockies in 1999.

A veteran of 11 Major League seasons as a player Valentin, 43, makes his Triple-A coaching debut after spending last year as hitting coach of Double-A Chattanooga, whom he led to a .261 team batting average. In 2009, he managed the Lookouts to a record of 65-74 after guiding Single-A Inland Empire to a 68-73 mark and a berth in the California League playoffs in 2008. Valentin played the majority of his career with the Boston Red Sox as a shortstop from 1992-2001, becoming the only player in Major League history to complete an unassisted triple play and hit for the cycle.

The lone familiar face on the staff belongs to Dishman, 40, who joined the Isotopes in the middle of last year after pitching coach Jim Slaton had to leave the team for personal reasons. Dishman began the year as Bundy's pitching coach of the AZL Dodgers and has spent the last six seasons guiding pitchers throughout the Dodgers organization. Dishman also enjoyed some Major League playing time, spending the 1995-97 seasons in the big leagues pitching for San Diego, Philadelphia, and Detroit.

The Isotopes' special "Holiday Combo Plan" consisting of 16 undated ticket vouchers and $56 worth of "Baseball Bucks" is only available for one more week. For information, visit www.albuquerquebaseball.com or call (505) 924-2255.
