
Toros Put Vipers Away in Fourth

CEDAR PARK, TEXAS - Up 73-68 after three quarters, the Austin Toros opened the fourth on a 10-2 run to pull away and defeated the defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers 107-91 Saturday at Cedar Park Center.
The Vipers (1-1) were outscored 34-23 in the fourth quarter and 30-21 in the second quarter.
The Vipers built a 14-10 lead in the first quarter thanks in-part to a three-pointer and a lay-up by Jerel McNeal. The Toros (2-1) came back to tie the game at 23-23 after back-to-back buckets by former-Vipers Marcus Hubbard. After the Vipers took the lead back, Hubbard in a jumper and then a three-pointer to give the Toros a 28-26 lead that they did not relinquish.
Despite getting outshot by the Vipers for most of the game, the Toros ended up with a higher shooting percentage and hit more total shots as the Vipers finished 31-for-66 (47%) from the field while the Toros finished 46-for-94 (48.9%) from the field. The Vipers went to the line more often that the Toros, but hit 11-of-22 (50%) free throws in the first half and 25-of-41 overall. The Vipers also got outshot from behind the arc as well, hitting 4-of-20 shots (20%) while the Toros hit 9-of-21 (42.9%).
The Vipers were led by Jerel McNeal, who scored 19 points while Patrick Sullivan, Mustafa Shakur and Houston Rockets-assignee Patrick Patterson each finished with 15 points. Antonio Anderson scored four points in his return to the Vipers.
Squeaky Johnson narrowly missed a triple-double for the Toros, with 10 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Hubbard scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting with nine rebounds while Lewis Clinch led all scorers with 22 points.
The Vipers and Toros play against on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the Cedar Park Center.
