Phoenix Suns Assign Gani Lawal to Iowa Energy

DES MOINES, IA. NOVEMEBER 16, 2010 - Phoenix Suns forward Gani Lawal was assigned to the Iowa Energy, the Suns' NBA D-League affiliate, it was announced today. The assignment marks the third time in the 2010-11 season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate, and it is the first assignment for Lawal, a rookie out of Georgia Tech.

Lawal (6-9, 234) has not appeared in any of the Suns' regular season games, but averaged team highs in points (15.4 ppg), rebounds (7.4 rpg) and blocks (1.0 bpg) for Phoenix's 2010 Las Vegas Summer League team, earning All-Tournament Team honors. Lawal also averaged 4.3 points and 11.7 minutes in six preseason games.

An early entry candidate for the 2010 NBA Draft, Phoenix selected Lawal 46th overall with one of its two second-round picks. A teammate of New Jersey Nets rookie Derrick Favors at Georgia Tech, Lawal led the Yellow Jackets in scoring and rebounding as a sophomore and a junior, and was an All-ACC Third Team selection each year. Over his final two collegiate seasons, Lawal averaged 14 points and 8.9 rebounds in 67 games.

Lawal joins the Iowa Energy in anticipation of the team's season opener at Dakota on Friday, and is scheduled to stay through Sun., Dec. 12 (10 games). Suns fans can keep track of Lawal and the Iowa Energy by logging onto nba.com/dleague to watch all of the Energy's games live, online, for free.
