Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Monday evening recalled defenseman Doug Janik from the Grand Rapids Griffins, who in turn signed defenseman Brandon Straub to a professional tryout on Tuesday.

Janik, 30, split time between the Griffins and Red Wings in 2009-10. The 10-year veteran led Grand Rapids' defensemen with 31 assists and 37 points in 66 games last season, tying for sixth in club scoring, and he chipped in two assists in 13 games with the parent club.

Chosen as one of the Griffins' alternate captains for the second straight season, Janik scored a goal during Sunday's 5-4 loss at Rockford and shows an even rating through two games. He is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Red Wings host Colorado at 7:30.

Straub, 27, has logged 15 AHL games with Houston, Quad City and Lake Erie over the past three seasons, showing 22 penalty minutes. The Colorado Springs native and Colorado College product appeared in 58 games for the CHL's Allen (Texas) Americans last season, totaling seven points (2-5--7) and a team-leading 185 PIM.
