Somerset Evens Series at One

September 24, 2010 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

Untimely mistakes hampered the York Revolution's chances on Thursday night, before the Somerset Patriots blew things open late, evening the best-of-five Freedom Division Championship Series at one win apiece with a 9-2 triumph in Game 2, before 4,001 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The series shifts to Central Jersey the next two nights for Games 3 and 4, before returning to York for a potential Game 5 on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Somerset scored the game's first run, manufacturing a two-out rally in the third. After Wayne Lydon dropped down a bunt single, Joe Burke reached base on a catcher's interference call, and Jeff Nettles smacked the first pitch he saw into left field, spotting the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

York's deficit was short-lived, as John Pachot reached on a swinging bunt to start the home third, and Chuck Jeroloman blasted a two-run homer to left-center, lifting the Revs in front 2-1.

The Patriots grabbed the lead for good in the very next inning, however. Revs starter Corey Thurman issued a leadoff walk to Noah Hall on a close 3-2 pitch, and Matt Hagen followed with a two-run homer to left, handing Somerset a 3-2 lead.

Thurman retired the next nine-in-a-row, but the offense was unable to bail him out, with baserunning mistakes in each of the next three innings.

Thurman (0-1) made just the one mistake pitch to Hagen, allowing only four hits and three runs (two earned) in six innings. He walked only one and struck out three.

Dustin Pease worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning, and Revs pitching had set down 12 consecutive Patriot batters until Lydon led off the eighth with a single. After Burke sacrificed Lydon to second, reliever Sean Stidfole came on but hit Jeff Nettles with a slider, putting two men on with one out. Stidfole struck out Josh Pressley for the second out, but Hall and Hagen came through with back-to-back RBI singles to pad the lead. After a walk to J.R. Hopf, reliever Jason Richardson was brought in and walked Iggy Suarez forcing in a run. Elliott Ayala then snuck a dribbler up the middle for a two-run single, capping the five-run rally.

Somerset added a ninth-inning run when Pressley scored on a wild pitch.

Pulsipher (1-0) earned the win, allowing just two runs in six innings despite nine hits allowed.

Lefty Chris Salberg gets the nod for the Revs in game three, opposite Somerset's Josh Miller, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 beginning at 6:30 with Darrell Henry on the call.
