YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Ice Zone in Boardman is the perfect place if you are looking for family fun, skating lessons, a competitive atmosphere, a place to hang out, or any combination that suits your needs.

"The Ice Zone is a one stop shop," said General Manager and Director of Skating, Skip Mackall. "It is the only rink in the area that has two rinks and we use them to their fullest capability."

The Ice Zone offers patrons many different ways to get themselves or a child on the ice. Programs like Learn to Skate, Learn to Play Hockey, the Phantoms Youth Hockey Program, and the Phantoms Figure Skating Club allow people the opportunity to be on the ice all the time. Signups for the Learn to Skate program will begin on September 13th.

"Skating is for everyone," said Figure Skating Club President, Alyssa DeMaria. " We have people enrolled in our program as young as four and one in her eighties. There is no age limit, skating is just good a way to have fun and even get a workout in."

Skip Mackall encourages people of all ages to get involved with any of the programs simply because of the personal benefits its provides.

"Skating is a great work out," said Mackall. "Not only does it provide a great workout for the body but it is a great way to learn social skills. For the younger, skaters it is a perfect opportunity to interact with other skaters in the program."

The figure skating program allows skater to join a program that will teach every level of skater.

"The club is a member of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA)," said DeMaria. "This membership allows our organization to enter competitions for our more advance skaters. Just this summer our group competed in Lake Placid and Boston."

For the casual skater open skate times are the best times to come and visit the Ice Zone.

"We have open skate times between two and four hours," said Mackall. "We even have a great DJ that plays today's top music on Friday and Saturday nights."
