Lynchburg fell 8-3 to Myrtle Beach in the middle-game of the three game series at BB&T Ballpark. Pelicans starter Brett Oberholtzer did not allow an earned run in eight and 1/3 innings of action.
The Pelicans struck early with a pair of runs to take the early lead. Mike Jones singled in a run to start the scoring and Samuel Sime brought in a run as well with a fielder's choice ground out.
In the bottom of the fourth the Birds broke things open with a five-run frame. Sime smacked a two-run homer, Jordan Kreke doubled in a pair and Gerry Rodriguez singled in the final run in the inning to make it 7-0. An insurance run came home in the seventh inning for the Pelicans with the fourth RBI of the night for Sime, who drove-in another with another fielder's choice ground out.
The Hillcats would break-up the shutout and finally chase Oberholtzer from the ballgame in the ninth inning with the aid of a couple of errors. Henry Rodriguez and Kevyn Feiner both singled in a run in a three-run frame to close out the score at 8-3.
The loss went to starter Pedro Villarreal (0-3) for Lynchburg (31-36, 60-77) and the win went to starter Oberholtzer (6-6) for Myrtle Beach (32-37, 58-81). The rubber match in the three-game series and the final game of the 2010 season is set for a 6:05 p.m. start on Monday night at BB&T Coastal Field.
