Michael Aubrey launched a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the 13th inning, lifting Norfolk to a 4-1 win over the Charlotte Knights Thursday night at Harbor Park.

With the score knotted a 1-1, Miguel Abreu started the game-winning rally with a single off of Garrett Johnson (0-1) and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Rhyne Hughes. After an intentional walk to Paco Figueroa and a flyout by Jeff Salazar, Aubrey launched an 0-1 pitch high over the right-center field wall to give the Tides their third straight win.

The homer was the second of the contest for Aubrey, who now has 21 home runs for the season. He's the first Tides batter to reach the 20-home run mark since Victor Diaz belted 24 home runs during the 2004 season.

Both starting pitchers pitched tremendously, as each was touched up for just a solo home run. Tides starter Chris George yielded five hits and did not walk a batter while striking out seven in eight innings of work, but Buck Coats lined a two-out homer into right field in the eighth inning that tied the score at 1-1.

Charlotte starter Carlos Torres yielded a solo home run to Aubrey leading off the second inning, but he faced just four batters over the minimum over his seven frames. Torres walked two and struck out two while allowing just three hits in his outing, throwing 64 of his 93 pitches for strikes.

Jim Hoey (4-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Norfolk's bullpen allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out four in five shutout innings.

The Tides will wrap up their 2010 home schedule on Friday night, with first pitch against the Knights scheduled for 7:15. Troy Patton (7-11, 4.59) will take the hill for Norfolk against right-hander Brandon Hynick (1-3, 6.41). There will also be a fireworks extravaganza following the game.
