Washington Wild Things News Release

Avon, Ohio - For the second night in a row, the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, watched the Lake Erie Crushers walk off in victory, this time falling in the bottom in the tenth 3-2. Wild Things veteran Chris Sidick made team history in the loss, playing at every position in the field during the game.

Sidick, who started the game at second, became the first Wild Thing and one of few Frontier League players to have played every position during one game. The outfielder, who typically sees time as Washington's center fielder or designated hitter, even pitched for one-third of an inning in the bottom of the seventh.

Both starting pitchers had similarly strong outings, keeping their respective teams at a 2-2 tie. Lake Erie Crushers pitcher Matt Smith went six innings allowing two runs on eight hits while Washington's starter Zach Rosenbaum went six innings as well, allowing two runs on only three hits.

The Wild Things scored their runs in the first and fifth innings. In the first, Chris Sidick led the game off with a double and scored after Michael Parker and Jon Kourie both hit infield singles, moving Sidick around the bases to give Washington a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Denny Duron's safety squeeze brought home John Delaney, who went 3-for-4 with one run scored.

Lake Erie's first two runs both came in the second inning. With Sidick catching behind the plate that inning, Raphael Turner stole second with two outs to put runners on second and third. A base hit to John Delaney in right by Jodam Rivera scored both runners.

The Crushers broke the tie in the bottom of the tenth. Reliever Chris Bennet gave up the winning run when Joel Collins hot an RBI single with two runners on base. Bennett allowed one run on two hits and a walk in the loss, while the win went to Ronnie Morales.

The Wild Things had plenty of opportunities to score more than just the two runs. They had 12 hits, including three a piece from Jon Kourie and John Delaney, and left 10 runners on base.

The Wild Things continue the series against Lake Erie Crushers tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:55 p.m. on WJPA 95.3 FM. Season tickets for 2011, the Wild Things 10th season, are on sale now. Call the box office at 866-456-WILD for details.
