Tulsa Oilers News Release
The man who led the Tulsa Oilers to their last championship hopes to lead his team to victory Saturday in the Oilers American Airlines alumni game.
Garry Unger, who coached the Oilers to the 1993 Central Hockey League championship will play in the game which takes place at the Oilers Ice Center (64th and Mingo) Saturday at 7 p.m.
Unger coached the Oilers after a standout 16-year career in the National Hockey League. He scored more than 400 goals and at one time held the record for consecutive games played at 914 (eclipsing the previous mark held by another former Oiler coach, Andy Hebenton). He won the Most Valuable Player award in the 1974 NHL All-Star game in Chicago.
Unger will join other Oiler fan favorites such as Todd Marcellus, Doug Pirnak, Troy Caley, and more in the third installment of the alumni get together.
The Oilers had the second highest point total increase in the CHL last season under head coach Bruce Ramsay, who was in his first season with the Oilers. They will have 33 home games at the BOK Center in the 2010-11 season, starting on Friday October 15th against the Wichita Thunder.
Season tickets for 2010-11 with plans for as low as $26 a month are now available by calling the Oilers office at 918-632-PUCK (7825).
