Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Thursday that they have signed former NHL draft pick Torrie Jung for the 2010-11 season. Jung was an amateur goaltender for the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in last seasons CHL playoffs.
The 21-year-old Jung was drafted in the seventh round (#183 overall) by the Tampa Bay Lighning in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He was called up to the NHL for one game with the Edmonton Oilers as a backup goaltender on November 21, 2009.
Jung signed as the Mudbugs emergency goaltender in last seasons playoffs. He made his professional debut by stopping 30 of 31 shots in the final 30 minutes of Bossier-Shreveport's game seven loss to Rapid City in the Northern Conference Finals.
"Throughout his entire playing career, both juniors and professional, Torrie has been highly recruited by a number of teams," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "There's a lot of upside to the way he plays the game. He's quick, he's mobile and he plays big in net."
The 6'1'', 170 pound Jung played four seasons of junior hockey spending time in the WHL and BCHL. Jung had a combined record of 50-73-27 and posted five shutouts.
Jung spent the last two seasons (2008-10) with the Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL). Last season Jung, from Nanaimo, British Columbia, went 9-26-7 with a 3.51 G.A.A and a .892 sv.%. During the 2008-09 campaign Jung was named the Oil Kings team MVP as he went 20-20-8. That season Jung notched career highs in games played (48), minutes (2809), wins (20), saves (1,251), G.A.A (2.56), and sv.% (.912).
"He certainly was the backbone of the Oil Kings teams in the two seasons he was there," Ruskowski said. "He has the potential to be a very good professional goaltender."
Jung spent two junior seasons (2006-08) with the Kelowna Rockets (WHL) where he went a combined 21-27-12. In 2007-08 Jung went 13-12-5 with a 2.80 G.A.A and a .891 sv.%, while in the 2006-07 campaign he was 8-15-7 (3.46 G.A.A, .896 sv.%).
In the 2005-06 season Jung went 5-11 with the BCHL's Cowichan Valley Capitals.
Jung is the 17th Buck signed for the 2010-11 season.
The Bucks will start their ninth CHL season on October 15th with their home opener October 23rd against Rio Grande Valley at Laredo Energy Arena. Season tickets are on sale now for the 2010-11 season. Call 718-BUCK (2825) to place our order now.
