Eagles Sign Two More Goaltenders

Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles announced today that they have signed two more goaltenders for their upcoming training camp (in addition to previously-signed Tim Boron). Third-year pro Kyle Jones and rookie Andrew Loewen will be joining the team in Loveland, Colo. for the start of camp in early October.

Jones brings good size (6-foot, 200-pounds) and a record-setting NCAA D-III resume to the Eagles. In four seasons at St. Norbert College, the left-handed catching netminder compiled a record of 87-10-8 with an eye-popping goals-against average (1.61) and save percentage (.926) to go along with 25 shutouts. In doing so, he set NCAA D-III career records for wins and shutouts.

Even more, the three-time All-American helped lead the Green Knights to four straight Northern Collegiate Hockey Association titles and capped off a stellar senior season -- one in which he lost just one game while compiling 10 shutouts -- with a national title. That final collegiate season also saw Jones named the recipient of the Sid Watson Award, given to the nation's best D-III player.

Jones played the first three games of his pro career at the AHL level with the Worcester Sharks before joining the ECHL's Phoenix Roadrunners for the remainder of the 2008-09 season. Last year he split time in net for one of the CHL's new teams, the Quad City Mallards (then of the IHL). In two pro seasons, Jones has a record of 22-33-8, along with a 3.27 GAA and a .899 SV%.

Loewen comes to camp after spending the past four seasons at Canisius College where he finished his collegiate career ranking in the top three on the school's all-time list for wins (30), saves (2,463), shutouts (six), save percentage (.913) and goals-against average (2.93).

The 6-foot, 195-pound goalie was voted the team's MVP in his freshman and sophomore seasons. In 2006-07, he set a school record with a 61-save performance, and in 2007-08, he put together the 10th-longest shutout streak in NCAA history, lasting 201 minutes, 104 saves and spanning parts of four games. Prior to attending Canisius, Loewen earned Playoff MVP honors in helping the Winnipeg South Blues to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League championship.

In addition to the three goaltenders already signed, the Eagles are still in talks with netminder Andrew Penner, the franchise's all-time wins leader who spent the past two seasons with the team. "We're still hopeful that we can bring Andrew back to Northern Colorado," said Head Coach/G.M./President Chris Stewart.

The signings bring the number of players under contract with the team for their upcoming camp to 14 (listed below).

The puck drops on the 2010-11 season on Saturday, Oct. 9 when the Eagles take on the Odessa Jackalopes in a preseason game at the Budweiser Events Center; the regular season begins on Friday, Oct. 15. Tickets for all Eagles home games will go on sale Saturday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased by visiting the BEC Box Office, calling 1-877-544-TIXX (8499) or online at www.ComcastTix.com.
