Suns Hold Late Charge by Diamond Jaxx for Friday Win

Jackson, Tenn. - The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (63-60, 24-30) scored a ninth inning run but left the tying and winning runs in scoring position as the first place Jacksonville Suns (73-51, 33-21) survived for a 3-2 win in front of 1,748 Friday night at Pringles Park.

Jose Rosario (4-3) allowed a solo home run and two singles over six and two-thirds innings with three walks and eight strikeouts in a winning decision. West Tenn starter Anthony Vasquez (1-3) fell in the losing decision, giving up two runs and six hits over six innings. Steven Cishek (2) saved the game after dealing a wild pitch to allow a run charged to Garrett Parcell before striking out Nate Tenbrink for the last out of the game.

The Suns opened the scoring in the first inning against Vasquez. Lorenzo Scott led off with a walk, moved to second on a one-out single by Vinny Rottino and scored on a two-out single from Ryan Curry for a 1-0 lead.

In the second inning Tim Torres reached on a bunt single, moved to third on Greg Burns double and scored on a Scott groundout for a 2-0 score.

West Tenn cut the Suns lead in half in the fourth inning when Leury Bonilla belted a two-out solo home run over the left field fence for a 2-1 score.

Jacksonville added a third run in the eighth inning against reliever Nick Hill. Rottino walked with one out and later scored on another Curry single for a 3-1 score.

The Diamond Jaxx rallied for a run in the ninth inning against Garrett Parcell. A hit-by-pitch and two singles loaded the bases with one out against Parcell before Jeff Gogal entered and struck out left-hander Joe Dunigan. Steven Cishek next entered from the bullpen and faced pinch-hitter Nate Tenbrink. During the at-bat, Cishek dealt a wild pitch to score Brandon Bantz from third for a 3-2 score. Cishek struck out Tenbrink on the next pitch to end the game.

In the current series, starters Brad Stone (5.0 IP, 0 ER), Tom Koehler (5.0 IP, 0 ER) and Jose Rosario (6.2 IP, 1 ER) have combined for a 0.54 ERA while allowing a total of 9 hits.

The Suns and Diamond Jaxx meet for a scheduled Southern League doubleheader of two seven-inning games on Saturday beginning at 6:05 p.m. ET. Game one features Suns RH Elih Villanueva against Diamond Jaxx RH Jarrett Grube while game two will see Suns RH Jeff Allison face Diamond Jaxx RH Steven Hensley.
