Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits took the first game of their three game series with the Clinton LumberKings. It was a 9-2 victory for the Bandits on Wednesday night. Quad Cities took an early 4-0 lead over Clinton after three innings of play and never looked back, plating five more throughout the course of the game.
Quad Cities used bats of many different players to score their nine runs. Four batters had multi-RBI nights including Matt Adams, Devin Goodwin, Edgar Lara, and Luis Mateo as they each plated two. Goodwin went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored. Mateo had a pair of base knocks and crossed the plate once in his 2-for-5 performance. Rainel Rosario added a pair of hits going 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and a couple of runs scored.
Michael Blazek (7-3) picked up his seventh win of the season in a spot start for Joe Kelly. Blazek threw five strong innings surrendering just two runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out six in the win. Left-hander Dan Calhoun and righty Christopher Corrigan combined for four shutout innings behind Blazek to keep the LumberKings from adding to their score.
Tom Wilhelmsen (3-1) was charged with his first loss of the season after being touched for six runs on seven hits. He struck out just one and walked four.
The Bandits continue their three game set with Clinton on Thursday night when the LumberKings return for Thirst-Day Thursday night at Modern Woodmen Park. $2 16 oz. draft beer and 22 oz. sodas will be available for fans enjoyment on Country Night, including a post-game concert by Grazing District. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. and Eric Formataro (7-12) will face off with fellow right-hander Taylor Stanton (9-6).
