August 16, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The South Atlantic League announced on Monday that Hickory Crawdads RHP Jake Brigham has been named the SAL Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 9-15. He becomes the fourth Crawdad this season to earn an SAL Weekly Award, joining CF Miguel Velazquez (Player of the Week, May 3 - 9), 1B Mike Ortiz (Player of the Week, April 26 - May 2) and LHP Robbie Erlin (Pitcher of the Week, June 21 - 27).
Brigham, 22, earned the win in his lone start during the week, pitching a complete game shutout against the Greensboro Grasshoppers last Tuesday. After allowing back-to-back singles to open the bottom of the first inning, Brigham proceeded to retire the next 26 batters faced, picking up all 27 outs in a row. In his nine innings on the mound, Brigham racked up a career-high 12 strikeouts, also a high for any Crawdad this year. He is currently 3-3 with a 3.10 ERA for the Crawdads this season.
The native of Orlando, Florida is in his fourth full season of professional baseball, after being selected in the sixth round of the 2006 June draft by the Texas Rangers out of Central Florida Christian Academy. Brigham spent all of last season with the Crawdads after coming off of Tommy John Surgery following the 2007 campaign.
