Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Washington Nationals have announced that centerfielder Nyjer Morgan, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to August 4th with a strain in his right hip flexor, will make a rehabilitation start for the Hagerstown Suns on Monday night against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

The lighting-quick outfielder is a .261 hitter in 103 games with the Nationals this season, and owns 12 doubles, 6 triples, 20 RBI, and a team-leading 29 stolen bases.

Morgan made his first rehab start at the Class A Advanced level with the Potomac Nationals at Pfitzner Stadium on Sunday. He was hitless in three at-bats, before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.

Morgan is set to play seven innings with the Suns at Municipal Stadium and will start in center field. In the event of rain showers he will serve as the designated hitter.

After his one-game stint in Hagerstown with the Suns, Morgan will be headed to Double A Harrisburg on Wednesday to log nine innings with the Senators before rejoining the Nationals on Wednesday in Atlanta to face the Braves.

Nyjer Morgan's scheduled appearance is for Monday evening, but is subject to change without advanced notice.

Morgan is the fourth major league player to rehab with the Suns in 2010, as left-handed pitcher Scott Olsen, former Nationals number one overall prospect Jordan Zimmermann, and righty thrower Garrett Mock have spent innings in Hagerstown, Maryland on the trail back to the big leagues.
