LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are pleased to announce that centerfielder Felix Sanchez and shortstop Jose Garcia have been named to the American League New York-Penn League All-Star roster, with Sanchez selected as a starter.

Sanchez, 20, has been the Spinners most consistent player atop the line-up. A switch-hitter from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Sanchez currently leads the Spinners with a .308 average and leads the New York-Penn League with 23 stolen bases (29 attempts), despite missing two weeks with a hamstring injury. His speed has been a game changer for the Spinners, as he has shown an ability to get on-base with his .387 OBP.

Garcia, 19, a shortstop from San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, clearly opened enough eyes through the Spinners first 17 games of the season before he too was felled by injury, missing nearly three weeks with an ankle injury. Garcia has struggled since returning, watching his average drop from .355 when he was injured July 4 to .240 as of Monday. He currently has one home run, seven doubles and eight RBI.

The 2010 New York-Penn League All-Star Game will be held in Staten Island Tuesday, August 17, with All-Star festivities getting under way Monday, Aug. 16.

Many of the Spinners front office is expected to be on-hand as they prepare to host the 2011 All-Star Game at LeLacheur Park.

The All-Star game pits the best players from NYPL American League affiliated teams against their counterpart National League affiliates.
