
Montgomery tallies 18 hits in 9-1 win over Diamond Jaxx

JACKSON, TENN. - The Montgomery Biscuits (21-21) had 18 hits and won game one of the five-game series over the Diamond Jaxx (19-23) at Pringles Park, 9-1. The loss snapped the Diamond Jaxx four-game winning streak. The win by Montgomery snapped a three-game losing streak for the Biscuits. John Matulia recorded two doubles and four hits, while driving in three to lead Montgomery to their game one victory. The Jaxx drop to 5-11 against the Tampa Rays Double-A affiliate, Montgomery Biscuits.
Jeremy Hall (5-7) tossed 5.2 shutout innings and struck out seven batters, while walking two batters. Anthony Vasquez (0-2) suffered the loss for West Tenn. Vasquez went six innings on Saturday night, giving up four runs (one earned) on 10 hits.
Brandon Haveman and Johan Limonta had two hits out of the Jaxx seven on the night. Emeel Salem, Rashad Eldridge and Henry Wrigley had two hits for Montgomery. Matt Fields was 3-for-5 with three RBI's on the night. The 18-hit night for Montgomery was their second highest total this season.
Montgomery scored a run on four hits in the top of the third inning. Nevin Ashley drove in Emeel Salem with a single to put Montgomery on top first, 1-0.
Matt Fields, Matt Spring and John Matuilia delivered RBI hits for the Biscuits in the top of the sixth inning. Montgomery added to their lead by going up 4-0.
The Biscuits added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning on a 2-RBI double off the bat of Matt Fields. The double scored Henry Wrigley and Drew Anderson, extending their lead to 6-0.
Carlos Triunfel plated the Jaxx first run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single that scored Joe Dunigan. The Jaxx stranded the bases loaded and trailed 6-1 after the seventh.
Montgomery scored three more runs in the top of the ninth inning. John Matulia drove in a pair with a double to cap off the three-run inning. The Biscuits increased their advantage to 9-1.
The Jaxx and Montgomery continue their five-game series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 at Pringles Park. RHP Steve Bray (6-7, 4.27) starts for the Jaxx while RHP Just Garcia (0-0, 0.00) makes his debut for the Biscuits. Sunday, Kids and Seniors eat free, presented by Nestle.
