-SPIKES HIT THE ROAD FOR FOUR: The State College Spikes will look to snap a three-game losing streak as they begin four-game road trip with the first game of a two-game set agains the Auburn Doubledays at Falcon Park. The Spikes took two series victories from the Doubledays earlier in the month to lead the season series, 4-2. State College also leads the all-time series, 24-22.
-LAST GAME: A record standing-room-only, sellout crowd of 5,807 packed Medlar Field at Lubrano Park last night as the Spikes rallied late but dropped a 7-6 decision to the Williamsport Crosscutters. It was the second record-breaking crowd of the year for the Spikes, snapping the previous franchise high of 5,775 set on Opening Night against the Crosscutters. Cole White and Andy Vasquez each homered for the Spikes, with Vasquez's two-run shot coming as a pinch hitter.
-VON ROSENBERG HITS THE HILL FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Zack Von Rosenberg makes his ninth start tonight for State College. Von Rosenberg, the 2009 sixth-round pick of the Pirates, threw four scoreless innings against Mahoning Valley in his last outing on Monday, helping to continue the Spikes' team-record 28-inning scoreless streak.
-DOUBLEDAYS TURN TO HUTCHISON: Right-hander Drew Hutchison will be Auburn's starter this evening. Hutchison's 0.99 WHIP is fifth-best in the NYPL, and opponents are batting .204 against him, a league low among starting pitchers.
-CURRY AMONG HITTING LEADERS: With his five plate appearances on Wednesday, Matt Curry reached the minimum needed to appear on the NYPL lists in batting average (3rd, .365), and on-base percentage (2nd, .446). Curry was the league leader in batting entering Thursday's action, and led the league in slugging that day as well. -- Joe Putnam Media Relations Manager/Radio Broadcaster State College Spikes (814) 272-1711 x322 - phone (315) 373-9929 - cell jputnam@statecollegespikes.com
