Connecticut Sun News Release
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (July 30, 2010) - The Connecticut Sun will honor former WNBA All Star Nykesha Sales as part of Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Day on Sunday, August 15th, during a game against the Indiana Fever at Mohegan Sun Arena at 5 p.m.
"We are glad to have the chance to honor Nykesha for her contribution to the Connecticut Sun,"Â Vice President and General Manager Chris Sienko said Friday. "It has been a long time coming, but we are grateful that Nykesha will allow us to say thank you for everything she did for our franchise. We hope fans will come out and do just that."
The all-time leading scorer in franchise history with 3,955 points, Sales appeared in a team- record 278 games, including 248 straight from June 10, 1999 until July 6, 2006. The seven-time WNBA All Star helped Connecticut reach the WNBA Finals in 2004 and 2005, and was a key contributor to Sun teams that reached four straight Eastern Conference Finals from 2003 to 2006.
Sales played her last game for Connecticut on August 27, 2007, a 93-88 overtime loss to the Indiana Fever in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference playoffs. She took a hiatus from the WNBA shortly before the 2008 season began, but has not officially retired and is still competing overseas.
