With the win, the Liberty take the season series at 2-0. It is the third series sweep of the season, with each coming in the past eight days. New York swept Chicago (4-0) on July 23 and San Antonio (2-0) on July 27.
Tina Thompson's 18 points tonight bring her within 25 points of taking the WNBA's all-time scoring record from Lisa Leslie (6,263).
With her game-high 20 points, Cappie Pondexter is 18 points away from recording her 3,000th career point.
The fourth quarter saw four lead changes and the Liberty led by as many as 10 points three times in the final two minutes.
In the fourth, New York led by three points at the five minute mark, until Noelle Quinn's seven footer brought Los Angeles within one with 3:45 to go. Plenette Pierson sparked a 10-0 run at 2:45 until Ticha Penicheiro's free throw with 1:36 remaining.
New York has won four of its last five games, and snaps Los Angeles' two-game streak.
