Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
For the second time this season, Clearwater's Austin Hyatt dominated the Hammerheads lineup, while Jupiter's Robert Bono couldn't make it out of the 3rd inning of an eventual 9-2 loss.
When the teams faced off in Clearwater on May 11th, Hyatt struck out 14 batters while limiting Jupiter to just one hit over eight scoreless innings. That performance earned him Florida State League Pitcher of the Week honors, an award he would win again later in an All-Star season. On Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium, Hyatt looked nearly as dominant, striking out 10 Hammerheads over six innings of two-hit ball.
Early on, it looked as if Bono might be up to matching Hyatt. The Jupiter righty struck out three of the first eight batters he faced, including a whiff of the first batter he faced in the 3rd inning, Carlos Perdomo.
Unfortunately, Perdomo's next at-bat, an RBI single, would come with Bono still trying to get out of the 3rd. In between, Bono would allow three singles, two doubles, a walk and a hit batsman while only getting one more out. Perdomo's single drove in the sixth run of the inning, chasing Bono from the game.
The Threshers would add three more off reliever Natividad Dilone in the 4th inning, getting a 9-0 cushion that didn't hurt Hyatt's ability to attack batters. Jupiter relievers Chris Squires and Jeff Gogal combined to toss four scoreless frames, as the Hammerheads made some headway once Hyatt exited. But RBIs from Miguel Fermin and Paul Gran could only make a slight dent into Clearwater's lead.
The two teams return to Roger Dean Stadium Thursday night for game three of the series, with Jupiter's Bryan Evans facing Clearwater's Edgar Garcia at 7:05 p.m.
