Toledo Walleye & Detroit Red Wings Ink Affiliation Agreement

(TOLEDO, OH) - The Toledo Walleye are pleased to announce that they have reached an affiliation agreement with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League for the 2010-11 season.

Under terms of the agreement, Detroit will assign contracted players to the Walleye.

With an emphasis on player development, the Walleye will serve as the Red Wings ECHL affiliate. The Walleye will also work and develop prospects with Detroit's American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. "We're proud to continue our partnership with Toledo as our ECHL affiliate," said Red Wings Vice President/Assistant General Manager Jim Nill. "The patient development of young talent is a cornerstone to the Red Wings' success and the Walleye franchise is a key component to that process. We look forward to another successful season working with Nick Vitucci and his staff."

Walleye Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Nick Vitucci said, "We are very excited to once again be working with the Detroit Red Wings. What an honor that Ken Holland, Jim Nill, Ryan Martin and the Red Wings staff have placed on us by allowing us to work and develop their good young talent."

Walleye President/General Manager Joe Napoli added, "The Red Wings are first class. They visit Toledo often, which helps Nick Vitucci recruit talented players, and they send the Walleye quality players. We couldn't ask for anything more."

The Toledo Walleye will begin the regular season on Friday, October 15 at 7:00 PM in Wheeling. The home opener will be Saturday, October 16th at 7:00 pm when the Walleye host Wheeling at the Huntington Center. Ticket packages are on sale now and group outings are being reserved.
