Lethbridge, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes are proud to announce the hiring of Jim Bradley as the club's new Business Manager as well as the extension of the contracts for both Associate Coach Matt Kabayama and Assistant GM Brad Robson. Bradley begins his first season with the hockey club immediately, while Kabayama and Robson are entering their 5th and 4th seasons respectively.
Bradley, originally from the West Coast has been a Lethbridge resident for just over two years. His educational background includes a degree from the University of Victoria and he has continued to work towards his MBA through online degree with the University of Liverpool. Bradley's professional background includes roles such as National Director of Sales and Regional Sales Manager with Callaway Golf.
Kabayama served as the Assistant Coach with the Canes for three seasons and is a former WHL player who he tallied 207 points (80G, 127A) in 267 games with the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Foremost, Alberta native's career continued as he played in the German Pro League for two seasons, spent two seasons with Mt. Royal College in Calgary and three seasons at the University of Calgary. Kabayama then began his career as a player/coach in the Japanese pro league for nearly 11 years before signing on as the Hurricanes Assistant Coach in 2006. In 08-09, he won his first WHL games as a Head Coach, notching a 2-2-1-0 record while stepping in for the suspended Michael Dyck. Last season, with the hiring of Hurricanes GM and Head Coach Rich Preston, Kabayama was promoted to Associate Coach and alongside Canes Assistant Coach Chris Chisamore and they make up the Hurricanes 2010-11 coaching staff under Preston.
Robson will continue to remain the Hurricanes Assistant General Manager but with his retirement this past month from the Calgary Police; will take on a full time expanded role in the 2010-11 season. Robson worked for 17 years as the Western Regional Scout for the Minnesota North Stars and Dallas Stars organization. Early in his hockey career with Minnesota, Robson worked with former Hurricanes GM Wayne Simpson. Highly respected in his field he also played a part in building the 1998-99 President's Trophy winners and Stanley Cup Champion Dallas Stars. He has been an integral part of the Hurricanes program over the past three seasons and this summer completed his third WHL Bantam draft with the team. Robson served for over 30 years with the Calgary Police Service and the Hurricanes would like to also take the opportunity to congratulate and commend him on his years of service.
Robson and his scouting staff have already put their finger print on the future of the hockey club with several draft picks already making names for themselves with the Hurricanes organization - potential starting goaltender Brandon Anderson (2007), big defenseman Derek Ryckman (2007) as well as forwards Ryon Moser (2007), Neal Tarnasky (2007), Mark Reners (2007) and Phil Tot (2008) along with d-man Reid Jackson (2008) all with WHL seasons under their belt. Robson has also stocked the shelves for the future with several bright young stars including the likes of Ryley Bennefield (2009), Michael Sofillas (List - 2009), Adam Henry (2009), Jordan Baillie (2008), Drew Graham (2008) and Brandyn Hulit (2008) all seeing WHL games with the Canes last season.
