(Altoona, PA) - Altoona used a four-run first inning to beat the Sea Dogs 8-1 on Wednesday night at Blair County Ballpark in front of 4,436 fans. The Curve has won the first two games of the series with the finale tomorrow afternoon.

Bryan Morris (4-2) picked up the win for Altoona, working six and 2/3 strong innings on five hits and one run. Jeremy Kehrt (1-3) took his second consecutive loss, yielding nine hits and eight runs (six earned) over five and 1/3 innings pitched.

The Curve had five consecutive hits off Kehrt in the first inning, receiving a 2-run double from Matt Hague, and a run-scoring single by Jordy Mercer. The fourth run scored on a passed ball by Luis Exposito, plating Hector Gimenez. In the fourth inning, Miles Durham extended Altoona's lead to 6-1 with a 2-run shot into the left-field bleachers.

In the sixth inning, the homestanding Curve pushed two runs across off Kehrt. Gimenez homered to deep right field and Alex Presley scored on a dropped throw by first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

Portland got off to a great start, scoring a run in the first inning off Morris. Nate Spears led off the game with a double to right field and scored when centerfield Gorkys Hernandez bobbled Che-Hsuan Lin's single.

The Sea Dogs received scoreless relief from Santo Luis, who retired all five batters faced, and Jason Rice worked a clean eighth.

The Sea Dogs and Curve wrap up their three-game series on Thursday afternoon at 12:00. Stephen Fife (4-1, 3.86) will make the start for Portland, while Altoona counters with Jared Hughes (9-3, 3.70).
