Braves Lose Early Lead, Drop Sixth Straight

Jackson, TN - The Mississippi Braves saw their season long losing streak reach six straight games as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx beat Mississippi, 4-1. An early 1-0 Braves lead went by the boards as the D-Jaxx scored two unearned runs in the second inning and added on runs in the 3rd and 7th. The Jaxx have now won nine games in a row and have won the series by winning the first three games vs. Mississippi.

In the top of the 2nd inning, the Braves picked up a run when Cody Johnson's fielders choice scored Mauro Gomez to make the score 1-0. Mauro Gomez and Orlando Mercado were able to start the inning off with back to back singles, which paced the Braves in the inning.

West Tenn answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. With two outs and the bases empty, a Randy Gress error kept the inning alive. Kuo Hui Lo then tripled to tie the game, which was followed by a Scot Stavastano single to bring in Lo and make the score 2-1,West Tenn.

An inning late, the D-Jaxx scored Brandon Haveman after he was hit by a pitch. A double by Carlos Peguero and a single by Alex Liddi scored the run and West Tenn then led 3-1. The final D-Jaxx run came came in the 7th inning. Alex Liddi walked and a wild pitch allowed him to reach second base. Jose Yepez then drove in Liddi to make the score 4-1 and that was the final run of the game.

Diamond Jaxx starter, Michael Pineda gave up just one run and struck out seven Braves in getting his 6th win of the season. Pineda has now given up two earned runs or less in nine of his eleven starts. The Braves have lost six straight and have been outscored 35-8 in that span. The longest losing streak in Braves history was nine in a row in 2008.

Tomorrow night is the fourth game of this series and the first pitch will be at 7:05. Mississippi will pitch LHP Mike Minor (1-4; 3.68) vs. RHP Steven Hensley (6-2; 1.50).
