Wildcats Family Member Kevin Rickard Passes Away

Moncton, NB - It was with great sadness the Moncton Wildcats learned that long time season ticket holder, one of the team's strongest supporters and member of the Wildcats family, Kevin Rickhard, passed away on Saturday morning in Fredericton.

Kevin battled cancer since December of 2008. When the Wildcats won the QMJHL championship on May 10th, Kevin's season long dream was fulfilled. General Manager Bill Schurman presented the President Cup to Kevin and his wife Anella, in the stands at the Moncton Coliseum. Kevin had become an inspiration to the Wildcats players and everyone associated with the organization.

"Kevin was a warrior," said GM Bill Schurman, "hockey players respect and admire warriors regardless of the battle they fight. He fought the disease which took his life but not his spirit. He has left us with a legacy of winning and he will always be a member of our Wildcats family," Mr. Schurman said.

Team President Robert Irving, on behalf of the Wildcats organization, expresses his deepest condolences to Kevin's wife Anella. She supported her husband throughout all his treatments and along with him, proudly wore the Wildcats jersey. Together they watched the team reach the pinnacle of major junior hockey when the Wildcats captured their second President Cup earlier this month.

The Wildcats will advise its players and fans of funeral arrangements when they are finalized.
