Gerard Gallant Named CHL Coach of the Year

SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Canadian Hockey League announced earlier today that Saint John Sea Dogs Head Coach Gerard Gallant has been named the CHL Old Dutch Coach of the Year for 2009-10.

In his first season behind the bench in the Port City, Gallant led the Sea Dogs to a franchise-record 53 wins, 109 points, and 309 goals scored. Saint John captured both the 2009-10 Jean Rougeau Trophy as QMJHL regular season champions and the Luc Robitaille Trophy as the league's top offensive squad prior to earning their first-ever berth in the President's Cup Finals following a lengthy playoff run.

Gallant, 46, was awarded the Ron Lapointe Trophy as QMJHL Coach of the Year on March 31, 2010.

Prior to embarking upon his coaching career, Gallant enjoyed a highly-successful playing career in the National Hockey League with both the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning. The Summerside, P.E.I. native recorded 615GP-211G-269A-480P-1674PIM during his lengthy tenure in the NHL.
