Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - Needing a pair of wins for a series victory on Wednesday night, the BayBears made it look easy by wiping out the Chattanooga Lookouts, 4-2 and 6-0 at Hank Aaron Stadium behind two powerful starts from Barry Enright and Bryan Henry.
Enright (2-1) went the distance in the doubleheader opener as he limited the Lookouts (17-23) to just three hits while surrendering two unearned runs. He even put the BayBears (20-20) in front with a two-run homer off Mario Alvarez (3-3) in the bottom of the third.
Enright's only blemishes came after an Evan Frey error to start the fifth, putting Trayvon Robinson at second. Robinson scored on a throwing error by Konrad Schimdt. Scott Van Slyke singled once Robinson reached and ended up scoring after Enright chucked three wild pitches to move Van Slyke around the bases 90 feet at a time.
Enright settled in from there and finished the ballgame by retiring his last six batters faced. He struck out eight in the contest and didn't walk anybody. The BayBears broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth with Jake Wald walking and scoring on a sac fly by Frey. Ollie Linton tripled with two outs and took home on a base hit by Collin Cowgill.
In the nightcap, Henry (3-2) picked up where Enright left off by rattling off five scoreless innings. The BayBears gave Henry an early lead to work with by scoring twice in the first against Timothy Sexton (2-2). Frey led off the first with a double and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Bryan Byrne. A sac fly from Taylor Harbin made it 2-0.
Chattanooga fell into a deeper hole in the fifth when the BayBears plated three on a two-run single by Byrne and a throwing error by Corey Smith. They tacked on one more in the sixth with an Ed Easley sac fly bringing home Gerson Montilla.
Roque Mercedes and Leyson Septimo preserved the BayBears' third shutout victory of the season with scoreless sixth and seventh frames. The BayBears' pitching staff combined for 14 innings, 15 strikeouts, just one walk, seven hits allowed and no earned runs in the doubleheader.
The BayBears travel to Regions Park to take on the Birmingham Barons on Thursday night at 7:05. They return home next Wednesday to battle the Mississippi Braves at 7:05.
