Tri-City Americans News Release
CALGARY, AB - In Game 1 of the WHL Championship Series, Martin Jones showed everyone why he earned the Western Hockey League's Goaltender of the Year Award.
Jones stopped all 26 shots he faced while 13 different teammates recorded at least a point as the Calgary Hitmen routed the Tri-City Americans (12-4-2, 24 pts) 7-0 in front of 10,980 fans at the Pengrowth Saddledome. With the win, Calgary has now won five straight playoff games as they take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Meanwhile, Tri-City suffered their worst playoff loss since an 8-1 defeat to Spokane in Game 1 of their 2000 First Round series. It also marked the 10th time the Americans have been blanked in a playoff game and the worst since an 8-0 loss to the Portland Winterhawks back in 1989.
Game 2 of the WHL Championship Series is set for tomorrow, May 1 at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Game time is 8:00 p.m. (MST). Fans can catch all the action live on My Network starting at 7:00 p.m. (PST). The game will also be aired on NewsTalk 870 AM, starting with the Sterling Savings Bank Warm-up Show at 6:45 p.m. (PST).
