Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City - The Sioux City Explorers announced today that they have finalized their coaching staff for the 2010 season with Bobby Post returning for a 2nd season as the X's pitching coach and Alex Llanos has been named the new hitting coach on field manger Les Lancaster's coaching staff when spring training opens on May 1st, 2010.
"Bringing Bobby back is a plus for us. Heknows the hitters in the league so that gives our pitchers a good scouting report.I thought he did avery good joblast year. He and I were on the same page with the pitchers plus the pitchers respond well to him stated field manager, Les Lancaster." Having Alex joining the coaching this year is a plus for us as well. With his experience and knowledge of the game and this league will help me with defense, coaching 1st baseand the infielders. He knows the pitchersin the league andthis will give our hitters a good scouting report on opposing pitchers. Both coaches have knowledge of the game so that gives the players the help they need to improve their skills and succeed, commented Lancaster."
Bobby Post will begin his second year as the Pitching Coach for the Sioux City Explorers.
A native of Victorville, California, Bobby played at Cerritos (CA) Junior College and then finished his college career under Coach Gary Powers at the University of Nevada. In the two seasons with the Wolf Pack he posted an 18-5 record.
After his college career, Post spent seven years as a pitcher in professional baseball with an overall record of 52-16 with 20 saves. His pro career carried him to Taiwan with other stops in Sioux Falls and in Sioux City with the Explorers.
When his pro career was completed, he was the pitching coach at Barstow (CA) Community College for three years. Post has now just finished his second season as the pitching coach with Briar Cliff University in Sioux City.
"Overall, our pitching staff with the X's this season will be much better and I am very excited about this year's pitching and I have high expectations for this staff," said Post." I learned a lot from Les (Lancaster) last year and with us working together, for the second year, I think we will work even better together," commented Post.
Not only does Bobby work as the pitching coach at Briar Cliff, he works with the Nebraska Human Service Office, mainly with young people.
Bobby and his wife (Jennifer) and three daughters (Alyssa, Emily and Jayden) make their home in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.
Alex Llanos - After 15 years playing minor league baseball, Alex Llanos will become the newest member of the Sioux City Explorers coaching staff and will replace Rafael Melchione as the X's hitting coach in 2010. Llanos, spent the final four years of his playing career with the Explorers, finishing his Explorer's career (2006-2009) with a .311 batting average.
July 5th, 2009 was a highlight for Alex when he banged out his 1,000th career hit. Quite appropriately it was on a Sunday at Lewis and Clark Park and it came before the home fans and friends. Llanos finished his playing days with a career .299 batting average over his (15) years of playing professional baseball.
Now as the hitting coach for the Explorers, Alex will look at the game from a different angle. "This is a great opportunity and I would like to thank Les Lancaster and the X's management staff for giving me the opportunity to begin my coaching career here in Sioux City, as there is no better place that I would of liked to start my coaching career then right here with the X's." commented LIanos. I cannot wait for spring training to start to work with the hitters that Les has put together this season, said Llanos."
In his (4) seasons in Sioux City, Llanos etched his name into the Sioux City Explorers career record books and now ranks 2nd all-time in hits (411), 4th in Runs batted in (206), 4th in doubles (66), and 7th in Home Runs (31).
Alex is originally from San Juan, PR and currently makes his home in Sioux City with his Fianc Traci.
