Dice is Great, but PawSox Lose in Extras

Fernando Martinez delivered a game winning single with two outs in the tenth to help Buffalo past Pawtucket 3-2. The hit came off Chad Paronto. Alex Cintron scored the winning run from second base. The Bisons completed the rally after trailing 2-0 in the sixth. Daisuke Matsuzaka started for the PawSox, but was long gone by the time the game was decided.

Matsuzaka turned in his second straight great performance. The righthander threw 6 scoreless innings at the Bisons. Dice-K scattered three hits. He had three strikeouts, and for the second consecutive outing, he allowed no walks. Matsuzaka is scheduled to make at least one more PawSox start, tentatively set for Tuesday night in Rochester.

Dustin Richardson entered in the seventh and surrendered a single to Ike Davis then a homer to Mike Hessman. Alan Embree threw a scoreless eighth giving way to Paronto in the ninth. The PawSox have dropped 3 in a row and have a record of 3-5. Darnell McDonald had a PawSox home run and Tug Hulett added an rbi.

The series wraps up on Friday night at 6:05 p.m. Lefty Fabio Castro (0-0, 2.25) will face Dillon Gee (1-0, 0.00).
