Moosic, PA - One night after the Syracuse offense failed to put a single run across in a 1-0 loss, the Chiefs rebounded with fourteen runs in an eight run win over Scranton/Wilkes Barre. The Chiefs relied on the strength of a seven run third inning to carry them to a 14-6 win over the Yankees. The victory evens the three game series at 1-1 and sets up a rubber match on Friday night at PNC Field.

The Syracuse offense started early in the game for the Chiefs with three runs in the first inning. First baseman Josh Whitesell sent a Rómulo Sánchez pitch over the fence to the opposite field and put the Chiefs in the lead. Sánchez (0-1) lasted just 2.1 innings for Scranton/Wilkes Barre taking the loss. He gave up ten earned runs and walked five.

Chiefs scoring continued in the second inning as Chase Lambin had an RBI single to score Seth Bynum. The big inning for Syracuse was the third when seven runs came across. Twelve runners came to the plate and Kevin Mench, Josh Whitesell, and Chris Duncan all batted twice in the third. Every Chief in the starting lineup scored at least one run except for Roger Bernadina.

Whitesell had 4 RBI , Seth Bynum contributed two, and Roger Bernadina, Kevin Mench, Luis Ordaz, Chase Lambin and Devin Ivany all knocked in a run.

Collin Balester (1-0) received his first decision of the 2010 season throwing 5 1/3 innings. He scattered eight hits and let five Yankee batters score while walking just one and striking out three. Zech Zinicola and Doug Slaten filled the gap for Manager Trent Jewett going a combined 3 2/3 giving up three hits, one run, and striking out two.

Game three of the series will see Chiefs RHP Shairon Martis (0-0, 6.75) face Yankees RHP Jason Hirsh (0-1, 5.79) at 7:05 p.m.
