SALEM, VA - The Salem Red Sox, Advanced Class A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, have announced 2010 will mark the second season of its community outreach initiative "Pack the Park for Charity" program. In its first season, the Salem Red Sox helped raise over $21,000 for seven different local charities and are looking to build upon last year's success.
"Pack the Park for Charity is one of my favorite programs," said Salem Red Sox general manager Todd Stephenson. "Groups and Non Profits get to raise funds while they have fun at the ballpark and create awareness. It covers all the bases."
The Salem Red Sox provide tickets at a discounted rate to local charities and organizations, which when sold at full price raise funds for their cause. The Red Sox also donate an additional $.50 for every full priced ticket purchased at the gate on the day of the game.
2010 will feature a "Pack the Park for Charity" every Wednesday home night game. A total of ten charities and organizations will be on hand throughout the season to raise funds for their cause. These organizations include the Roanoke Rampage on behalf Steps 4 Billy, Salvation Army, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity in Roanoke, Roanoke County Prevention Council, Blue Ridge Autism & Achievement Center, Arthritis Foundation on behalf of HCA Jingle Bell Run, West End Center, United Way, and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity of Roanoke College on behalf of the Ronald McDonald House.
The "Pack the Park for Charity" program is sponsored by Fox 21/27, the CW5 and Wheeler Broadcasting including K92, Q99, 94.9 Star Country, WFIR 960AM, and ViBE100.
