THE HILLCATS: On Sunday the Hillcats dropped the final game of a four-game series against Frederick, 4-1...They split the series with the Keys and now welcome Salem to town...Tonight is game one of the three-game series with the Red Sox and the fourth game of a seven-game homestand for the Cats...
VS. SALEM: The Hillcats went 10-10 against the Red Sox in the 460 series last season and were 5-5 at Calvin Falwell Field...In the post-season the Cats swept the Sox three games to none in the Mills Cup Championship...In the all-time series Salem leads 155-137 during the regular season, but they are 66-79 in the Hill City...
RIVALRY RENEWED: Tonight marks the rematch of the 2009 Mills Cup Championship Series...The Hillcats swept the Red Sox three game to none to capture the 2009 Carolina League crown...Last season was the first time the two teams met with the league title on the line and it was the third time they met in post-season play...The Lynchburg White Sox defeated the Salem Rebels in 1968 in a one-game playoff...In 1988 the Lynchburg Red Sox defeated the Salem Buccaneers two games to one in the NDCS...
ENOUGH OF THE EIGHTH: On Sunday Lynchburg allowed four runs in the eighth inning to turn a one-run lead into a three-run deficit...The night before the Hillcats allowed eight runs in the eighth inning and fell 9-1...Over the course of the series 13 of the 17 runs that Frederick scored were plated in the eighth...
STARTING OUT STRONG: Thus far this season the Hillcats starters have a combined record of 2-0 with a 2.93 ERA (two earned runs in 19 and 1/3 innings)...On Sunday LHP Travis Webb did not allow a run in four innings of work...None of the Cats four starters thus far has allowed more than one run in a start...

WALK THIS WAY: The Hillcats walked seven batters on Sunday in the 4-1 loss to Frederick...It was the second straight game the Cats hurlers issued seven free passes...Of the seven walks on Sunday, five of them came in the seventh and eighth innings with the Cats trying to protect a 1-0 lead...The first two runs that scored in the four-run eighth inning were put aboard for free...
OUTSIDE THE BOX: RHP Brad Boxberger made his official professional debut Saturday night and allowed just one run on two hits and struck out seven in five innings of work...The supplemental first round pick from a year ago (43rd overall selection) struggled in the prestigious Arizona Fall League this off-season, going 1-1 with an 11.37 ERA with the Peoria Saguaras...This after an outstanding season at USC in which he posted a 6-3 mark with a 3.16 ERA in 14 starts...
NEW KIDS IN TOWN: This season the Hillcats are the minor league affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds for the first time ever...It is the first season since 1994 that the Cats have not been affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates...The Reds are the tenth different Major League team that has been the parent club to Lynchburg...Over the last 34 seasons Lynchburg has only has only been affiliated with three different teams (New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates)...None of the players on the Hillcats roster had ever played in the Carolina League...
BEST OF THE REDLEGS: Seven members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Reds organization prior to the season according to Baseball America...That list includes RHP Brad Boxberger (9), UTIL Neftali Soto (13), SS Miguel Rojas (17), RHP Mark Serrano (24), OF Josh Fellhauer (26), INF Cody Puckett (28) and C Devin Mesoraco (30)...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHERS: RHP Stolmy Pimentel was signed by the Red Sox in 2006 out of the Dominican Republic...In 2007 he pitched for the Dominican Red Sox and went 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA in 14 games (13 starts)...The next year he pitched for Short-Season Low-A Lowell and had a 5-2 mark with a 3.14 earned run average...Last season he moved up to full season Low-A Greenville, and posted a 10-7 mark with a 3.82 ERA in 24 games (23 starts) for the Drive...Pimentel was the Opening Night starter for the Sox and he went just one scoreless inning before the game was suspended due to rain...
