Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Pink ice, pink jerseys and pink hockey sticks can only mean one thing: it's time for "Pink in the Rink" Weekend at the CenturyTel Center! Join the Mudbugs as they take on the Tulsa Oilers tomorrow and the Wichita Thunder on Saturday at 7:05 pm, presented by Edible Arrangements. Pink in the Rink will be a total effort by the Mudbugs to increase breast cancer awareness in our community and raise money for the Northwest Louisiana affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
The entire weekend will be themed in pink as the 'Bugs face the Oilers tomorrow and the Thunder on Saturday, from the ice the teams will skate on to the various pieces of hockey equipment that will be auctioned off to benefit the fight against breast cancer. The Mudbugs will even donate $1.00 of every individual and group ticket sold to benefit the cause.
Breast cancer survivors will be recognized throughout the weekend, and we encourage you to join us by wearing pink to the games to help us "Pink Out" the CenturyTel Center!
"To be part of a great charitable cause like this is something we're very proud to do, and it goes right along with our mission as an organization," said Mudbugs owner Tommy Scott. "Everyone knows someone who has been stricken with breast cancer or had it affect their life in some way. Pink in the Rink is a great way for us to join in the fight, and we're hoping that Shreveport and Bossier will get behind us and help support it."
After they are worn during both games, the Mudbugs' pink and black specialty jerseys will be auctioned off to the fans in a silent auction on the concourse. Other items to be auctioned off include: Brett Smith's pink helmet (to be worn during pre-game warm-ups), autographed pink Mudbugs hockey sticks, a pink referee's jersey which will be worn by the official and even the pink tie that Head Coach Scott Muscutt will wear behind the bench. A portion of the proceeds from all auctions will go to Susan G. Komen's Northwest Louisiana affiliate.
"Just like the Mudbugs' players will be fighting for the win during Pink in the Rink this weekend, each day hundreds of Louisiana women face their own battles with breast cancer," said Danielle Voumard, director of the Northwest Affiliate of Susan G. Komen. "With 75 cents of every dollar being invested right back into our community, everyone should want to support our mission to save lives and come out to the games. It is going to be a phenomenal weekend! Don't miss Pink in the Rink!"
Great seats are still available for you to be a part of the Mudbugs' Pink in the Rink weekend. Contact the team office at 318-752-BUGS to purchase group tickets.
