
Bucks Move Back To Third With Wild Win

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 6-5 Thursday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. With the win the Bucks move back into a third-place tie in the Southern Conference with Texas as they improve to 24-16-9 (57 points). The Bucks have won five of their last seven games (5-1-1).
Todd Griffith scored two power-play goals while Darryl Smith, Evan Schwabe and Neil Trimm each had one goal and one assist to lead the Bucks (13-6-6 at home).
Jeff Bes played in his 383rd career game as a Buck Thursday night tying him for first-place all-time in team history with former captain Serge Dube. Bes will pass Dube as the teams all-time games played leader Friday night in Corpus. Bes had two assists Thursday in the win.
The Killer Bees struck first in the game as Grant Goeckner-Zoellar took a pass from Aaron Lee off of a Bucks turnover and jammed in a shot from the bottom of the slot. The goal was Goeckner-Zoellar's 22nd of the campaign.
The Bucks would score two special teams goals to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Robin Richards banged in a rebound right in front of the Bees net to tie the game at 1-1 with 2:13 left in the first period. The goal was Richard's sixth of the season. Laredo remains unbeaten in regulation against Rio posting an 8-0-3 mark. Eight of the 11 meetings between the Bucks and Bees have been decided by one-goal.
The Bucks would take a 2-1 lead with just 49 seconds left in the first period as they scored shorthanded. Smith picked up a loose puck at center ice and streaked down the left wing and hammered a shot in from the top of the circle. The tally was Smith's team-leading 27th of the year.
Laredo doubled up Rio in shots in the first period 14-7.
The Bucks picked up four goals in the second period to take a 6-3 edge after 40 minutes of play.
Neil Trimm put the Bucks up 3-1 when he took a pass from Smith and jammed it home from the slot just 7:25 into the second. The goal was Trimm's ninth of the season.
Laredo went up 4-1 with 7:20 left in the second when Griffith potted a rebound goal from the right side of the crease with the man advantage. The goal was Griffith's fourth of the year and his first since January 29th.
The Bucks increased their lead to 5-1 when they scored their second shorthanded of the evening with 5:45 left in the second. Schwabe took a pass from Curtis Billsten on a two-on-one play and scored from the left circle. The tally was Schwabe's first since January 3rd and his first since coming off of the IR last week.
Aaron Lee would score on a penalty shot for Rio to cut the Laredo advantage to 5-2 at the 16:08 mark.
Griffith would make it 6-2 Bucks with 3:02 left in the second when he scored a power-play goal from the top of the left circle on a two-on-one break. The goal was Griffith's second of the game and fifth of the campaign.
Daymen Rycroft would jam in a rebound with just 36 seconds left in the period to make it 6-3 Bucks.
The Bucks were outshot 14-13 in the second.
Rycroft would the the lead to 6-4 when he scored a shorthanded goal at the 7:40 mark of the third period. The goal was Rycroft's second of the night and 20th of the year.
Topher Scott brought the Bees within one at 6-5 when he scored a rebound goal right in front of the Bucks net with 3:48 left in regulation.
The Bucks would hang on for the win.
Kevin Desfosses stopped 33 shots in the win while Andy Franck set aside 27 shots in the loss.
The Bucks were outshot 38-33.
Maxime Lincourt was a healthy scratch for the Bucks Thursday night.
The Bucks will start a three-game road trip Friday night in Corpus Christi at 7:05pm before traveling to Rio Grande Valley for a 1pm Saturday tilt.
**SKATING FOR HAITI FRIDAY AT LEC**
*The Laredo Entertainment Center and the Laredo Bucks are teaming up with the Laredoans for Haiti Relief Project coordinators to raise funds for this great cause.
The LEC is opening up its doors on Friday, February 19th at 12 noon for public skate sessions. There will be a total of seven sessions throughout the day, and all it takes is a minimum of $5 to skate for one hour.

When the Bucks host Rio Grande Valley on Friday February 26th the first 1,000 fans to enter the LEC will receive a FREE Bucks/Bees "rivalry t-shirt". There will be a post-game skate following the rivalry game between the Bucks and Bees.
**GIVE BLOOD, PLAY HOCKEY FEB 27TH**
The Bucks will hold "Give Blood, Play Hockey" on Saturday February 27th at the LEC. The blood drive runs from 8am-7pm in the concourse of the arena. Everyone who donates blood will receive TWO FREE TICKETS to the game, along with many other gifts.
