San Jose Earthquakes News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Real San Jose 3-0 on Saturday morning at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The Quakes had goals from Chris Wondolowski, Ismael Ibarra and Joey Gjertsen. The lineup was littered with fresh faces as rookies Justin Morrow, Steve Beitashour, Andrew Hoxie and last year's second round draft choice Brad Ring earned the start.

The Earthquakes pressured Real San Jose early and often, finally breaking through in the 20th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. Chris Wondolowski put away a rebound off of a Joey Gjertsen corner to put the Quakes in front.

It was 2-0 early in the second half after Ismael Ibarra scored off of a through ball from Amarikwa in the 55th minute. Ibarra collected the pass and slid his shot underneath the Real San Jose goalkeeper. Just three minutes later, Ibarra was at it again, this time setting up the third Quakes goal as Gjertsen finished from the penalty area in traffic.

The Earthquakes maintained their pressure the remainder of the match and made their 3-0 victory stand up, as Andrew Weber and Mike Graczyk shared the shutout. The Quakes head to Phoenix on Sunday morning for a week of training.
