Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

Pensacola earned their first victory against Fayetteville this year, topping the FireAntz 7-5 in Florida. Tyler Barr and Rob Campbell each scored two goals in the win, and Brian Deeth picked up his first goal as an Ice Flyer, adding two assists as well. Yet the FireAntz?s Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn picked up a hat trick and the FireAntz actually took the first lead of the game.

Fayetteville jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at 8:06 in the first period when Olauson slipped the puck in at close range. Cooke assisted on the play that gave the FireAntz the lead up until 10:21. At that time Rob Campbell found the puck in the low slot right on the edge of the left face-off circle. He batted it in for a powerplay goal, and the Ice Flyers tied it up with the help of Mark Hinz and Lorne Misita as well.

Pensacola took the lead at 13:11 in the first period when Tyler Barr sent the puck towards the net from between the left point and the left circle. His backhanded swat evaded goalie St. Vincent to give the Ice Flyers a 2-1 advantage that held up into the first intermission. Deeth and Monte also earned a point on the play.

Fayetteville tied it up at 5:21 in the second period when Versteeg-Lytwyn sent one past the Ice Flyers? netminder on a man-advantage. Pensacola rallied back at 8:43 when Brian Deeth scored his first goal in an Ice Flyers? sweater. His shot from midway between the right circle and point rang true, shaking the net and earning an assist for Rebernik and Hughes as well.

At 15:37 Lorne Misita found himself with one defenseman to evade on a shorthanded rush. Misita cut to his right, found daylight, and fired a shot from the right faceoff circle that gave him his fourth shorthanded goal of the year, extending his league lead. At 17:31 Tyler Barr extended Pensacola?s lead to 5-2 with his second goal of the night off a shot eight feet out in the slot. Erik Stoyanovich set Barr up on the play. The second period ended with the Ice Flyers up 5-2.

Fayetteville battled valiantly in the third period, scoring three goals, but the Ice Flyers held on to win 7-5. Rebernik scored with the help of Hughes and Deeth at 9:12, and Rob Campbell scored his second goal on an empty net at 19:45 to put the game on ice. Dieter earned an assist on the play.

Versteeg-Lytwin scored a hat trick with his final goal at 15:21, and Olauson scored his fourth point of the night with a goal at 16:10 to bring the Antz within one. Campbell found the empty net goal however, and the Ice Flyers claimed victory 7-5.
