USHL Fall Classic Awarded To Sioux City For 2010 And 2011

Sioux City, IA - The Sioux City Musketeers are proud to announce that the United States Hockey League Board of Directors has awarded the 2010 and 2011 USHL Fall Classics to Sioux City, IA. The USHL Fall Classic is the most widely scouted hockey event in the world, drawing over 200 National Hockey League and Division One College Scouts along with thousands of fans from all across the US and around the world.

"We are honored that the USHL Board of Directors awarded the Fall Classics to Sioux City, which will be the 4th and 5th consecutive years it has been held here, said Sioux City Musketeers President Jim Kronschnabel. "It is a tribute to what we have created and how it has been run in the past. Nearly 200 volunteers have made this a very special annual event and we could not have done it in the past, nor do it in the future without them. Their hard work and dedication, along with the Musketeers staff, Tyson Events Center and IBP Ice Center staffs, and the help and support of Aran Rush, Executive Director are the reason it is coming back to Sioux City for two more years."

The USHL has expanded to 15 teams for the 2010-11 season with the recent addition of the Dubuque Fighting Saints and there may be more to come. All these teams will descend on Sioux City the last weekend in September with the possibility that the Fall Classic may be extended to four days to accommodate current and future USHL expansion.

"The Fall Classic has an economic impact on the Siouxland area that amounts to nearly 1.5 million dollars," said Kronschnabel. "That is a lot of money left in our community in a very short period of time. Plus hockey fans get to see the best of the best as the USHL is the top developmental hockey league in the United States. These are the college and NHL stars of tomorrow."

"The Fall Classic in Sioux City has quickly become a much-anticipated event for the USHL and hockey fans throughout North America,' said League President and Commissioner Skip Prince. "Players, coaches, scouts, and fans - all of us have been impressed by the extraordinary organization Sioux City provides for one of our most significant gatherings, and the graciousness and professionalism everyone's shown. We're delighted to be back, and we'll be working to make the event even better over the next two years."
