Saltdogs Bring Back DH Nuñez for 2010

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs brought back an important piece of their 2009 championship team on Friday, acquiring designated hitter Argelis Nuñez from Laredo of the United League in exchange for cash. The right-handed slugger appeared in ten regular-season games and all ten postseason games for Lincoln last year.
"We're excited to see what Argelis can do for us in a full season," said Saltdogs manager Marty Scott. "He was tearing the cover off the ball in Laredo when we picked him up last year, and even though his batting average with us was a little low, you could see his potential. He'll give us a real power bat in the middle of the lineup."
The Saltdogs originally acquired Nuñez just hours before the American Association's roster deadline last August, and he hit.238 with two home runs and six RBI over the season's final ten games. Nuñez then served as Lincoln's DH for every game of the playoffs, and although he hit just.167, he drove in six runs over ten games. Argelis came up with game-tying RBI hits in both the sixth and seventh innings during Game One of the championship series against Pensacola, and his RBI single drove in the first run for Lincoln in the title-clinching Game Five.
After the season, Nuñez was returned to Laredo to complete the trade-deadline deal. He posted career-best numbers for the Broncos in 2009, hitting.358 in 64 games, tying a career high with 13 home runs and driving in a career-best 58. He also displayed a great eye at the plate, striking out just 40 times and drawing 34 walks. The Dominican native began his pro career in 1999, but did not play from 2002-2004, or from 2006-2007. This year will be his seventh in pro baseball.
