Omaha Lancers News Release
Erik Haula recorded his 2nd hat trick of the season and Jeff Teglia earned his 2nd shutout of the year in goal as the Omaha Lancers blanked the Lincoln Stars 7-0 Friday evening in front of 4,720 fans at the Lincoln IceBox. With the win, Omaha improved to 26-8-2 on the year and remains atop the West Division standings with 54 standings points. The Lancers remain just one point back of Green Bay for the top spot in the overall USHL standings. Omaha is now 4-0 this season against Lincoln.
Omaha grabbed the game's opening marker just past the midway point of period one when Erik Haula's seeing-eye wrist shot from the high slot slipped past the glove of Lincoln's Matt Green 12:36 into the opening frame. Matt White grabbed the only assist on Haula's 16th goal of the season. The Lancers then doubled the lead in the period's final minute when White's beautiful orchestration in the neutral zone led to Colin Markison's 5th goal of the season. Omaha grabbed the 2-0 lead with just 28 seconds left in the first period.
The Lancers broke the game wide open in the second period thanks to four goals in the middle frame. The offensive explosion began just over five minutes into the period when Haula broke in on a shorthanded breakaway after Lincoln's point man on the power play lost his footing at the blue line. The native of Pori, Finland lifted the backhand shot under the crossbar for his 2nd goal of the game and 17th of the season. The shorthanded marker was Omaha's 8th such goal of the season. Omaha extended the lead to 4-0 less than two minutes later when Nick Oddo and Dennis Brown executed a 2-on-1 breakout for Oddo's 10th goal of the season. Troy Power grabbed the secondary assist on the even strength tally netted 7:12 into the period, which also ended the evening in goal for Lincoln's Green. The Lancers then leapt out to a 6-0 advantage following a pair of goals just 1:49 apart late in the period. First, Anthony Hamburg registered his 4th goal of the season when his right wing centering pass deflected off a Lincoln skater and into the back of the Stars goal. Then, Haula completed his hat trick with a wrist shot from the bottom of the left wing faceoff circle from White and Tom Craig.
Omaha capped its evening with a power play goal from Danny Mattson 17:17 into the third period. Brown and Dakota Eveland assisted on the only man advantage marker of the evening for the Lancers despite a season-high 12 power play opportunities.
Jeff Teglia recorded his league-leading 20th victory of the season and 2nd shutout of the year as he turned aside all 31 Lincoln shots he faced in the contest. The shutout was the fourth of the year for the Lancers. Green suffered the loss in net for Lincoln after just 8 saves on 12 shots in 27:12 of crease duty. Jared Coreau (14 saves on 17 shots) registered a no decision in relief of Green.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow evening when they head to Waterloo for their final regular season clash with the Black Hawks.
