Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks picked up two wins in three tries within 72 hours, capping their weekend with a 5-3 victory at Young Arena Sunday against the Tri City Storm.
Tyler Barnes contributed two goals and two assists in the effort, helping to start the scoring with an assist on J.T. Brown's power play goal 2:17 after the opening faceoff. Cody Murphy tied the game in the closing seconds of a power play with 4:43 remaining in the opening period.
In the second, Barnes scored on a power play redirection at 9:55, then again into an open side off a Jamie Hill feed at 15:22. The Storm got one back from Nate Jensen with 2.5 seconds remaining before intermission. During the final 20 minutes, Soren Jonzzon pushed the lead back to two with the Hawks' third power play goal of the evening. That proved to be the game-winner, as Matt Friese poked in a puck at 14:00 to make it 4-3. The Storm had a late power play with chances to tie the game in the closing minutes, but Derek Arnold scored into an empty goal with 28 seconds remaining to guarantee the win.
Waterloo had beaten Tri City 5-0 in Kearney, Nebraska on Friday night before falling to Green Bay 3-1 Saturday. Next on the Hawks' schedule are a pair of games Friday and Saturday versus Youngstown and Omaha respectively. It's John Deere Weekend, with $7 tickets for all John Deere workers who show their employee badges at the Black Hawks' box office.
