Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that forward Joey Dorsey (6-9, 278, Memphis) has been recalled by the Houston Rockets.

In 16 games and starts, Dorsey averaged 14.9 points, 13.3 rebounds (second in the league) and 1.38 blocks per game. He also leads the league in field goal percentage at 64.7%, in rebounds per 48 minutes at 20.2, and ranks twentieth in blocks per 48 minutes at 2.1. Dorsey is tied for third in the league with nine double-doubles.

"Joey has really used this opportunity and added playing time to work on his game and continue his development. With guidance from the Houston Rockets coaching staff, Vipers head coach Chris Finch and his group have done a great job in working with Joey, giving him the direction needed to bring his level of play up to where he was named to the 2010 NBA D-League All-Showcase First Team. In addition, it was encouraging to see Joey as one of the top rebounders in the league while playing a major role in the Vipers' first place standing in the Western Conference," said Vipers General Manager Gersson Rosas, who is also the Rockets Vice President of Player Personnel.

Dorsey was named to the NBA Development League Showcase First Team on Saturday after averaging 17.5 points and 16.5 rebounds per game while hitting 13-of-19 shots (68.4%) in two games. In Wednesday's win over the Bakersfield Jam, Dorsey scored a career-high tying 27 points while recording a career-high 22 rebounds (tied for the second-highest single-game total in franchise history) in a career-high 42 minutes of action. Dorsey hit all 11 of his field goal attempts in that game.
